BTW Fritz, cant remember where I read it, but some site had some pros talking about their harp mics and one guy was adamant that the sm57 is just the best. Cheaper than a green bullet.

Yea I have read that as well, it depends on the tone you want I guess, some okes want it cleaner (sm57) and some like the added distortion the bullet mics give you.  They say it is easier to cup a sm57 with your hands than a bullet, and the cupping does add lots of distortion.

I have decided to go for this one http://www.geocities.com/bottle_o_blues/Product_mic.html $50 excluding shipping.

Anywhoo, back on topic, the Cub 8 got a nice bit of dirt on it, so methinks it will work well as a harp amp, only time will tell tho.

It's paid for and I just gotto pick it up tomorrow at Jean Village Music. Last one in store. When I phoned Bothners they were all out in CT - I was thinking my sister could go pick it up for me. Alos, they were quoting the price that Alan mentioned earlier in this thread ie 3395 as opposed to the 3995 at Jean Village. Anyway, because it was the last one Jean Village had I just decided to get it. BTW at Bothners they said they were going to call the agents to see about getting some more in.

OK Prices confirmed:
CUB8 @ R2595- retail
CUB10 @ R3395- retail
Then obviously the 33% discount.

They have more on order for us, so speak to the sales d00ds in your closest store and tell them to call you when the stock arrives.

I'll mention this to the guys at Jean Village when I go and pick up the amp today. As I said, I paid 2677-00 which is a 33% discounted 3995-00.

Tell them the price was confirmed by Carel van Heerden. By my reckoning they owe you R436.30. If they got stock in for you, then they cannot claim that particular one came in earlier at a different price or something. (and a R600 jump in retail price would be unlikely anyway - the rand has been fairly stable lately).

OK, just went and fethced the Cub 10. I mentioned to Jake that Alan said that they have to give it to me at the price quoted in this thread other wise there was gonna be big sh!#. So they said OK and off I went with my little amp. Nah, I just mentioned what been told above and Jake said well, then they would honor that and off I went with my little amp and a couple wall hangers and a cable. And then nogal got a bit of a discount thrown in as well because the extras I took for the difference came to somewhat more than what I had paid originally. So, I gotto tell y'all to go and buy stuff there, good to deal with. Thanks evabod.

You got good service at Jean? Wow. Last time I was there I vowed to never set foot in that place again. Hahahaha. It was a long time ago but yugh I still taste the sour. Been a bit torn the past few weeks as the GFSA deal does suit my budget alot better with me shopping for a house...guess I'll toss a coin sometime before x-mas.

OK, so I plugged it in and it works. Except for the pilot light. Well that's not a big sweat and not about to go tearing back to the store to bleat. I think it sounds gif , maybe not as loud as I'd like but too loud for the people next door and behind and the other next door. Sure I should be able to take a look and see why the light doesnt work and just fix it or get someone to because I heard and read that there is all sorts of stored up voltage in bits inside that can cause a bit of shit if you dont know what you are doing. Ya, I read that in a book that I bought by Dave Hunter when I was thinking I'd put together an amp. I dont know too much about electronics so I laughed that off. All in all, a good purchase. Now what I want to do is get a compressor and slap that in front to see what it does.

My pilot light is bonkers as well, goes on and off when it pleases, not a fuss for me.  It got's a bit of a hum / noise coming through as well, might send it to someone to check out and upgrade some of the innards and fix the light.  Still very happy with the purchase though Smiley

Hmmm, seems to be an issue all round, everyone who owns one here has complained about the indicator lamp going in and out at will... I also noticed the buzz as I shared in my mini review.

I'm swamped for the next week or 2 but officially close shop Dec 11th, maybe the week after that I can take a look at it with you? I'm dying to open one up to see what is inside and will post some pics if you allow me and we can look at ways to improve the tone of the little beast  Tongue I've had an offer to open up a Cub 10 as well.

I've also got a JJ 6V6 and 12AX7 here we can put in as well as some NOS tubes and a new Jensen 8" speaker, interested to hear if we hear a major differences and what they are, maybe we can upload the clips here? All these are small mods that anyone can do, no tech required... in time we can look at more specialized mods.

Cheers

If you were in the Durbs area, I'd have no problem letting you open up mine.
My light seems to be stable now. I took off the top and just pressed down on the LED a bit. Maybe just a loose connection.
Buzzing is still there, but not much of a problem as I don't crank it up. I also got a Boss Blues Driver pedal, so I can have a bit of distortion even at lower volumes.

Will keep an eye out on the thread and see what you come up with, though. I'm getting quite keen to learn a bit on how these tube amps work - I think it's fascinating, considering the electronics don't really seem to be very complicated. Might look for some books over the holidays to satisfy my curiosity too.
