So, I recently went over from Vista to Windows 7 (huge improvement btw) and I just made a themepack I use with some free pics I found on the net. I'll share it with you guys, but make your own theme packs and share them with us please. (Be sure not to infringe on anybody's copyrights etc...) http://www.box.net/shared/yzenigcfznThe quality of the pics are not fantastic but it's usable..

Having been a Windows user since 3.1 I follow the cardinal rule: do not upgrade any audio machine to a new version until the first service pack. Let others do the testing and have the problems first and hopefully solve them.
Early reports are very good on Win 7, so it looks like a winner for audio. However not every piece of hardware has drivers available for Win7 yet and it will still take a little time for all the hardware and software manufacturers to iron out any bugs in their software that Win7 exposes.
I'm guessing mid next year the dust should have settled enough to upgrade 100% safely.

I use ESI Waveterminal 192L and Sonar 8 and so far it runs better than it did on XP. The latency is also less. The thing with Win 7 is that you can use your old XP or Vista drivers. I'm still using the Vista drivers I downloaded for the ESI.

I'm using the M-Audio Mobile Pre USB on Windows 7. Works fine and I don't have any latency issues.
The problem is that there are no drivers for it for Windows 7, so you have to fiddle around a bit with a workaround - basically make the driver think it's running on Vista.
Just checked and it sems they have now released the drivers for Windows 7 as well. Will be trying them out later this evening.

Check out interfacelift.com Great site for wallpapers. I use OS X Snow Leopard which is fine but my quibble with regard to themes is that the bundled wallpapers are quite low-res... other than keeping os download size small what's the point?

The thing is, everything I have now runs perfectly on Win XP (I dodged the Vista bullet by taking exactly this stance) and it's tremendously stable, so I have no need to upgrade. Especially not this early in the game.
The next audio machine will be a rack mounted Quad core and then there will be definite advantages of moving to a new OS that supports all the latest features. And by then any lingering bugs will be sorted so I'll be able to go from one stable machine to another.

i am yet to find a serious enough bug in windows 7 not to warrant moving to it , i normally wait for the first sp , but with win 7 i am going balls to wall . it's stable , quick and looks nice .

There are strong suggestions from "the okes that know" that the reason Windows 7 is working so well out of the box is that it's actually just the next Service Pack of Vista. The name change was to escape the horrific brand problems associated with Vista.

I doubt that. There's no way a service pack could have sorted Vista out that well. I'm thinking Vista is the Windows ME of the modern age and Windows 7 is what Vista should have been.

Win 7 is what win 2000 was to me . they buggered vista up something solid ..... I am yet to find a happy customer . Xp is like 98 , new technology in its time , but it took time to get perfect . Besides that win 7 had alot of public testing more then any other version which is strange by ms standards but a good move none the less . Win 7 is a winner in my books , they finally got it right , it can only go onwards and upwards . Actually the first version of a ms product i will get a legal license for . And that says alot.
