This month, we're hitting 88miles per hour, heading back in time to March 2013, when Rene originally hosted the...

Something with Delay Challenge

For all the pedal board/effect junkies, this is where you can jump on board.

There is no limitations on genre or style, but only that your song features delays.

The 4 instrument restriction applies, but if you want to make 3 guitars do something delayed or a full band and only one guitar delay, then that is up to you.

Original Vocals are, of course, always a freebie - samples however will be counted as instruments.

The winning entry should be judged based on:
1) Creativity
2) Originality
3) Its melodic impact (i.e. could you remember the tune after listening to it)

Rules for beginners/intermediate/advanced :
All genre's welcomed.
Max four instruments playing at any one time - Original Vocal track(s) are considered 'free' (doesn't count towards the four instrument limit - however samples will be counted as instruments).
Submissions around 2mins.

If you would like to enter, send me an email (v8v8v8 at gmail dot com) by 23:59 pm Sunday 21st May 2017 with :
1. GFSA username.
2. Track name.
3. Category (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced or Band)
3. Track rendered in mp3.
4. Optional blurb. Anything you might feel is useful to the listener - info about song, studio, recording techniques, etc..
5. Please make sure you have GFSA somewhere in the title of the email - otherwise I might miss your submission.

Good luck, luck, luck....

Spent a few minutes last night jamming on a loooong delay (well, only about 650ms but the longest my DIY pedal does). Think I'm going ot have some fun with this one.

Need some inspiration...?

The delay thing could be interpreted as using one (or all of) reverb &/or looping and/or delay. I recall Alan's winning entry last time integrated delays with the composition, it was very mind bendy Cool.

Still eyeing this one waiting for pedals Smiley

Reaper + ReaDelay?

I'm a absolute sucker for a stereo ping pong delay...the Zoom B2 has a great preset (the only one I like), but I've got to figure out how to get it into the interface in stereo.  Roll Eyes

I'm going to try make the delay part the focus/main part of the piece I come up with.
Just jamming something with slapback on or delay to fill up the riffs doesn't feel like it's gonna cut it for me :-P

My favourite part of the delay clip is the dotted 8th's example (ala The Edge) - thought that sounded great!

Some cool tips there... that piece at the time you added is from close encounters of the third kind.
I'm pulling out the guitar this afternoon and seeing what I can come up with... this is going to be a record in terms of "early starts" for me...I usually do the whole thing in 2 - 3 days before the deadline. lol.

Built some delays on the Digitech RP360XP and I have a favourite dotted 8 as well. Tomorrow new pedal arrives and once collected, will add into the mix. (wringing hands in anticipation Smiley)

One question four tracks meaning Drums, Bass and instruments of choice or can I layer Bass and drums in one track and add more instruments on remaining tracks?

Comments appreciated.

Have a snazzy long weekend peeps

Sounds like we are gonna get some spacey vibes from you!

I believe it's "Max four instruments playing at any one time" with vocals being a freebie... So drums and bass would be 2 leaving you 2 other instruments...
Theoretically you could cut bass out at certain sections and have 3 guitars and drums going if you wanted or 2 guitars and synths etc.

I think I should try and take part this month. I've been working such long hours, I think I played my guitar 3 times in the past month.

The VST's I have and can find for free will have to do as I do not have a delay or multi-fx pedal.

Pretty much - I'm usually very relaxed about track limits, though for this challenge I've been fairly explicit (E.g. samples are a instrument). My general thinking is that constraint should inspire creativity. E.g. Beat-box a drum beat (I would consider that a vocal track).

The VST's I have and can find for free will have to do as I do not have a delay or multi-fx pedal.

Do ittttt! Kjaerhuis do a free suite of plugin's. I really dig the delay : http://www.vst4free.com/index.php?dev=Kjaerhus_Audio
