Nice one gents,

Congratz to exsanguinator, warren and doomsower/richard for 'winning' their respective categories - it's a kinda booby prize, now y'all get to suggest the next challenge topic (and format)  Cool

And finally - A big up to J-Man & Bulletscript for the entry, cool to hear what SA bands are up to in the genre. You can find them on bandcamp (have a listen to their previous album) & look em up on facebook to see what they be up to.

Stoffeltoo : AFAIK, their singer doesn't use any fx - it's a natural growl that doesn't shred his vocal cords. How he does it I do not know!

Wern :  I wouldn't worry too much about the votes, intermediate/beginner had the most competitive entries, two votes is doing good. I've had my fair share of easter eggs (zero votes), not to say my tracks were bad (ok, some were), but the others were better/more appropriate to the genre. For me, there was a lot you could have done with the mix - especially guitars.

Anyone have any ideas?! I thought "motivational track", but that tends to lean back to where we've just come from. Then I thought maybe something silly like 1 string challenge. But then... have we ever had a "dance song on guitar" challenge?
Obviously it would be "easier" on electric because you can add effects and stuff....

I like it! And with acoustic it would be just as awesome - you can add effects and stuff too....

Anyone got a looper lying around?

also - a reminder of what I posted a challenge or two ago:

One string challenge could work nicely as a 30-60s mini challenge, sure some strange scales will pop out?

Can't recell ever doing a "dance song on guitar" specific challenge on GFSA. Users of NI guitar rig will have some fun with that though, the modifiers let you do some stoopid things - had a lot of fun in the past coming up with patches that sound rather un-guitar like.

Let's give it until Monday and see if anyone else chips in - we also have a nice bucket of idea's stashed just in case we get really stuck.

Waiting to see what the other peeps chime in.
I've previously used synth sounds and rotary, with speed mapped to the pedal to play WUB WUB of dubstep. lol.

Both ideas sound great, but under Dance is that Trance/Rave specific, or would it include various dance styles and genres, namely Tango, Flamenco or Swing?

Mmmm... yes and no...I dunno. It is a double edged sword, it opens it up to more people... but then maybe it makes it too open? Would it not be better to have "elektronika musica" (dance, rave, techno, dubba wubba steppa) this month and "traditional dance" (which would allow oompa, turkish, tango, irish, flamenco, swing etc) next month?

The reason I say is it's probably going to be tough to judge whether a doef doef number is better than an epic flamenco tune?

Just my 0.2 zim cents.

Dunno - but since the gents have not weighed in with any suggestions it's looking like your choice.

Buutttt...I'm not feeling two consecutive electronika challenges - that would be a bit much... Cheesy

How about "Dance fusion" - with the goal of "make us boogie and shake our tail feathers". That way we could have rock with a doef-doef rhythm section, metal with a techno sawbass or tango with a (country) twang.

I'm thinking one minute, four tracks ,3 weeks?

The idea was elektronica first then more classical dance genre like latin/swing/flamenco but your idea works!

What about a guitar plugged into a Korg Kaossilator?
I've got one, never tried that, but saw something on utube awhile back?
I'll need to open my toy cupboard and hunt for it.
Remind me to buy batteries, if i remember correctly, it ate them like anything.. Lol

Saw a bass with a Kaos pad builtin - thought it was a great idea...if I had a third hand  Wink

I'm not holding my breath for a stack 'o entries on this one, but if that be the will of the winners, so be it!

I'll post it up this week.

Can I get clarification on the compo elements?
Does this mean that a guitar should be taken through digital modulation or that a digital MIDI track(s) with guitar can be entered?
The latter could work as not everyone has access to Kaos Pad or an Ibby with KP.
I like the challenge idea though but let's make it fair to give more entrants a chance

+1

Yeah, its a great idea but awfully marginalized. I thought Metal would be jammed packed? I like Dance, I honestly think its a challenge in itself, traditional or electronic? Isn't dance one of the main reasons  for song creation in the first place?

I think as long as an actual guitar is strummed, the signal can be sent and returned any way one wants it to sound.
As long as a 4/4 doof doof beat is there, it would be classed as techno, dance whatever.... Etc
Im sure even with only 4 tracks it should be ok
